Batesville Georgia Real Estate

Back Porch of Mark of the Potter

Real estate in Batesville Georgia is truly one of a kind in Habersham County. Batesville is a small rural community of primarily agricultural land and active poultry farms, Soque River valley bottom lands,  rustic-style cabins, and craftsman-style primary and second homes.

Batesville was one of the first settlements in Habersham County from lands ceded by the Cherokee Nation in the early 1800s.  Batesville once even had a small college that was the forerunner of Piedmont College in Demorest Georgia.

Batesville Georgia has a colorful history of “moonshining” during the 1930s, 40s & 50s as Highway 197 was a primary thoroughfare for hauling illegal corn liquor to customers around Atlanta.  Batesville Days Festival is held annually on the fourth Saturday of October to celebrate many of the old mountain arts and traditions. The Soque River Ramble 6K Run & Walk is an outdoor event each fall that allows participants to see portions of the Soque River on private lands near Batesville.

Batesville General Store & Restaurant

Tourists like to visit the restaurants, art galleries, and recreation available up and down scenic Highway 197, with the Batesville General Store serving as the landmark central location. Along Hwy. 197 you can also find antiques, crafts, pottery, folk art, stained glass, flower gardens, cabins & lodging, camping, horseback riding and fishing.

While public access to recreation on the water is not available in the immediate vicinity of Batesville, fisherman and boaters can enjoy both public and private locations like Lake Burton and Lake Rabun to the north, and Brigadoon Lodge and Blackhawk Fly Fishing to the south. Other public recreation points of interest for visitors include Raper Creek Falls and the Tray Mountain Wilderness Area.
